Savages

Gulf News reports that a Saudi woman was beheaded on Monday after being convicted of practising sorcery. Amina Bint Abdulhalim Nassar was executed in the northern province of Jawf for "practising witchcraft and sorcery," the ministry said in a statement carried by SPA state news agency.
Amina;s execution took to 73 the number of executions in Saudi Arabia this year.

Rape, murder, apostasy, armed robbery and drug trafficking are all punishable by death under Saudi Arabia's strict interpretation of Islamic sharia law.

Ansdso is sorcery. Amina is the second woman to be murdered by the stte for sorcery this year

I don;t know what constitutes sorcery in the twisted mind of the men who rule Saudi Arabia . The BBC reports on  a quote from a member of the religious police which describes Amina as being in her 60s and had tricked people into giving her money, claiming that she could cure their illnesses.

Hmm it sounds as if Amina may have been a charlatan and a trickster but that does not warrant her murder by the state. `But then Saudi Arabia is run by a bunch of evil, misogynistic vermin .

But then who should give a damn so long as the Saudis squirts out that oil and buys our weapons. It makes me sick that our government and the governments of each and every western state queue to kiss that countries arse.

When Shirley read about this her two word response was "fucking savages" I agree wholheartedly

I'm writing to my government about this. We're either a civilised country, or not. If we're civilised, we must openly condemn barbaric countries. That's what I'm telling Ottawa. It's not the first time I've done it. I'll do it as often as necessary.

A good move Claude. The more pressure put on our governments not to pander to these vermin the better

Apparently if you have crossed some (unspecified) threshold of amount of cash in your pockets, you can be a fucking savage as you wish. There must be a lesson somewhere in this.

73 executions this year... I'm overwhelmed. And for sorcery... (sigh)

Saudi Arabia and Texas have comparable populations (S.A. about 27.5 million; TX about 24.7 million) and even Texas, one of the most flagrantly murderous states in America (I consider capital punishment to be murder), has executed "only" 13 people this year, most for capital murder. Over the past century, Texas has executed on average between 50 and 250 people a decade (G.W. Bush was the worst about never, ever pardoning anyone), so I suppose 2011 is typical. And Saudi Arabia killed almost six times as many as Texas this year.

When will it end? The tide of opinion is turning in the US; I have some hope. Texas may be last state to let it go.

Meanwhile, the US is extrajudicially executing vast numbers of people around the world, "collateral damage" of drone attacks, you know. But at least the domestic trend is against capital punishment: though it still has majority support in the states that have it, support diminishes in many states every year.

In Saudi Arabia? That's a hard case. I wouldn't bet on its being banned. Ever.

The abolition of the murder penalty cannot come fast enough. It is a stain on a so called civilised nation that it still resorts to such a barbaric practice. But enough of this rant.

I am glad that states are waking up and realising that legalised murder isn't an appropriate punishment even if the perp is the lowest filth.

Shirl is pleased that no execution has taken place in the UK in her lifetime (the last two executions taking place in August 1964, about a week before she was born).

As for Saudi Arabia, I won't hold my breath either. THe vermin that rule there have a mindset that would put pond scum t shame. Besides, where is the incentive when they have so many good friends!
